DC & NoVa

Rehearsal Dinner - Old Ebbitt Grill

Highly recommend.
They did a wonderful job at service and quality of food.  We had waited so long to book a venue for the rehearsal dinner (our first choice of Maggiano's was completely booked) and Old Ebbitt Grill did not have any of their private dining spaces still available.  We booked in their atrium, which is a space that can hold 250 and is overflow for their dining room.  They did block of our area with plants and made it into a private space.

Ceremony & Reception - Omni Shoreham

Highly recommend.
The Shoreham has it's pros and cons... since it is a hotel, they do nickel and dime you for many things, but in the end it is all worth the money.  The garden setting was spectacular for the ceremony.  The cocktail hour was in an area with an entire wall of picture windows.  The ballroom we chose for the reception had windows looking out to the garden as well as a terrace... most DC hotels have their ballrooms in the basement with zero windows.  The hotel is gorgeous.  The bridal suite is huge.  We also had two coordinators that attended to our every need and they even brought us drinks without us asking.  Nothing was missed during the day.

The only complaint I have is the hotel block was made with a different name under the groom name (typo when they filled out the form) and even though I asked for it to be corrected five times through five different contacts, it still wasn't corrected through the day of the wedding.

Side note - although we used the Shoreham's catering, they DO allow outside caterers.

Priest - Monsignor Enzler

Very highly recommend.
Father John has been a friend of my father and family since they went to first grade together.  My Dad joked during the welcome speech that Father John is so busy that the Archbishop has to make appointments with him months in advance.  We felt very blessed to have Father John be the officiant at our ceremony.  We had already booked the Shoreham for an outdoor wedding, thinking Father John wouldn't be able to do the ceremony since Catholics aren't allowed to have weddings outside (silly rule!)  Father John told us he has done many outdoor ceremonies as long as we do a 10 minute church "ceremony" the morning before the wedding.  He said he had another engagement the same evening as our wedding, so as long as our wedding was a certain time, he could do both... we found out later that his other engagement was a 50-year anniversary for his church!!!!  He is an amazing man and we are very happy he could be a part of our day after all.

If you would like to meet him, his churches are Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in DC and Our Lady of Mercy in Potomac.

Ceremony Music - Celebrated String Quartet

Highly recommend.
The music was beautiful.  This was one of the moments that brought tears to my eyes on the day of the wedding.  They played while the guests were seated and all the way through the ceremony.  They were going to play during the cocktail hour, but since the wedding ceremony started late, they were unable to stay.  The main reason I chose Celebrated String Quartet was because they already knew the song I wanted to walk down the aisle to; Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago... the other quartets wanted $200 to learn the song.  They were great to work with and responded quickly to any of my questions.  My mother-in-law gave this to us as a gift, so I didn't get a moment to meet them on the day of the wedding since she was paying.

Band - Retrospect

Very highly recommend.
This band played at my stepsisters wedding six years ago and I already knew they would be good.  They are a nine piece band and can play almost any type of music you would like to hear, but I was especially looking forward to their swing and Sinatra music.  There were many current songs they could play as well  Retrospect was willing to learn the songs we wanted for our first dance as well as Father & Daughter dance.  The dance floor was packed all night and the band members even came out to dance with us.  They brought such an energy to the reception and we were very happy to have them there.

Photographers - The Regetis

Very highly recommend.
Their photos are amazing.  Since the wedding just happened, we will not see our photos for 6-8 weeks, but go to their website to see the other weddings they have done and you can see the quality.  Amy and Srinu are also fun to work with and they had us laughing the entire time.  Our engagement photos looked great and the shots we thought were crazy when they were taken turned out to be our favorites.  The Regetis only shoot 26 weddings a year so they are not over-loaded and can focus more on each couple.  I wish we lived in the area and could have our future family photos taken by Amy and Srinu.

Cake - Creative Cakes, Silver Spring

Meh.
We used Creative Cakes because my stepsister used them for her wedding and it wasn't a battle I wanted to take on.  My family has the mindset that there should only be one flavor of cake and it should be a flavor that most people would like.  I am a person that wanted a different flavor for each layer and have some that are on the unique side of the spectrum.
The tasting was alright.  The lady that helped us wasn't the friendliest.  We tried 8 flavors and none of them really stood out as being outstanding to me.  I liked the butter rum, but we ended up going with chocolate cake with buttercream filling and buttercream frosting.  The prices were WAY too high for what we received!  All I wanted was smooth buttercream with ribbon tied around each layer and it was still $5 per person!!!!!!
On the day of the wedding, the cake was pretty, but it wasn't exactly what I had specified (I didn't make a big deal because my anal self was the only person that would have noticed the mistake) and the cake was very moist.  A few guests complimented us on the cake.

Florist - Multiflor

Sort of recommend.
The only reason I sort of recommend this florist is if you are the type of person that wants the florist to do all of the work and run free with ideas, they will do a beautiful job.  The flowers were very pretty, but not what I had asked for.
He only works with flowers that are locally in season.  He would not get tulips for me, even though tulips can be found at any time of year and all I wanted them for was my bouquet, so no budget limitations.  Also, he said that peonies were not in season and I had researched that they were.
We had discussed the centerpieces... the lower ones were to be 3 vases of differing heights, each with a different type of flower and only that type of flower.  The taller ones were going to have tall calla lillies coming out of the top with hydrangeas around the mouth of the vase.  You can look in my "flowers" tab to see what I likes.  The actual arrangements were NOTHING like what we had talked about, but the final bill was the same amount as the estimate he had given us.  I was the only one that noticed the mistake, so again I am not going to complain (being that my stepmom paid the bill and she found nothing wrong with the flowers.)

Makeup - Lauren at MAC, Macy's Tyson's Corner

Very highly recommend.
Lauren was recommended to me by other Knotties and I cannot tell you enough how great she is.  My non-pro shots do nothing for showing you.
I believe she can travel to venues to do makeup, but I was able to go to Tyson's on the wedding day so I never asked.  She is wonderful  to talk to and can do anything you ask her to do.  I brought an inspiration photo in for my trial and all we needed to change in the end was the lipstick color.  Many guests told me I looked like a movie star.  Lauren is very much a perfectionist and she said she thinks she gets more nervous than the brides the night before their weddings because she wants to be sure to do her best! LOL.

Denver

Jewelers
     Williams Jewelers, Cherry Creek
     Shane Co, Westminster
     Fifth Avenue Designs, Cherry Creek

Williams Jewelers - recommend.
They were the only jeweler in Denver that sold the brand of the engagement ring I wanted.  Everyone that works there is very nice and helpful.  My engagement ring did have a prong break a day before we left for the wedding and they had it fixed within two hours.

Shane Co - recommend.
Shane Co has a wide variety of wedding bands to choose from at very good prices.  They also helped me out with the many times I needed the ring re-sized due to losing so much weight.  I am very happy with their warranty.  The only thing I don't like is the drive to get to their store from where I live.

Fifth Avenue Designs - Very highly recommend.
This will be the only jewelry store we will every use again since they are so good!  We had already bought my engagement ring and wedding band before looking for Matt's wedding band.  We had shopped all day for Matt's band since he was very picky and getting tired and frustrated.  We walked in, expecting an over-priced Cherry Creek store and instead we found Lynnette.  She has been so nice an helpful and Matt found exactly what he was looking for.  Later, I asked her to help me find earrings for me to give to my stepsis and she worked with my budget and found the perfect gift.  We look forward to working with them more in the future.

Wedding Dress - Priscilla of Boston

Highly recommend for dresses.  Not recommended for alterations because of price.
I found the dress I wanted in a magazine long before I started trying and on.  I went to other stores to try about 10 dresses on before I went in to try on my dream dress.  Margo helped me out and she picked out some other dresses for me to try on as well.  My dream dress made me cry for two reasons... one was because it was perfect and exactly what I wanted, the other reason was because I tried it on and fell in love, then looked at the price tag and it was twice my budget!!!!!  f&*@ck!  One of the other dresses she picked for me to try on ended up being the dress I bought and fell in love with as well.

Alterations - WAY too expensive!!!  I had them done in the store because of other reasons.  They did a very good job on the alterations.  The seamstress has a bit of an attitude, though. LOL

Bridesmaid dresses - we bought all of the bridesmaid dresses from PoB... 3 of them in Denver and one of them in Tyson's.  The Denver store was amazing and they arrived quickly and the correct sizes.  They Tyson's store measured my stepsis incorrectly and ordered a dress 3 sizes too big.  She took it elsewhere for alterations, but they had to basically reconstruct the dress for her.

Bra - Sol (Store of Lingerie), Cherry Creek North

Very highly recommend.
During my search for a long-line bra, I also went to Treva's, Priscilla of Boston, Shaeffers, Le Soutien, and Nordstrom.  Sol was the least expensive when comparing the exact bras.  Sol was also the ONLY one that included alterations during the life of the bra.  The other stores either didn't have alterations or the seamstress would charge for alterations.  I needed this because the back of my dress was lower than any of the bras, and I was losing weight so there was a possibility of the hooks needing to be taken in.
Sol has an enormous selection of bras and a quick turn around for alterations.  The staff was very friendly and knew what they were talking about.

Invitation Printing - Pepperdine's, Denver

Highly recommend.
My Dad wanted raised (thermography) printed invitations.  I designed them myself and Pepperdine's is one of the very few in Denver that can do thermography (most printing shops send their thermography jobs to Pepperdine's).  They do not sell paper, so you must give them the paper you want.  They can print envelopes as well.

Hair - Brooke Oliver, Matthew Morris Salon, Denver

Very highly recommend.
I am a little biased here because Brooke has been a friend of Matt's for 12 years, but I am VERY picky about my hair and she created exactly what I wanted.  I was very fortunate to have her as one of Matt's friends and she was going to be a guest at the wedding, so she could conveniently fly out and do my hair as well!
Brooke does travel, but she is pricey.  Well worth it!  She has been doing my hair for two years so far :)

Dying my shoes - Dardano's, Denver

Highly recommend.
I know it seems kind of odd to recommend a shoe place, but they did such a good job!  They even asked me if the photos were to be taken indoors or outdoors so they can use the correct lighting to match the shoes to the dress.  Fabulous!

Dress Cleaning and Preservation - Gold Label Cleaners, Denver

My dress has not been cleaned yet, but if Coach recommends them as the only place to get cat puke off of my purse, then I believe they will do the best job on my gown!

Guest Book - Picaboo

Highly recommend.
I had researched several sites before deciding on where to make a guest book... we were including photos of us as children as well as photos while we've been dating and have the guests sign in the "white" spots like a yearbook.  The reason I chose Picaboo is their page layouts were the best in comparison.  The site was very easy to use.  I didn't like their backgrounds on the site, but googling "picaboo backgrounds", I found more that users had created to share with others for free.

Tuxedos
     Men's Warehouse
     Nordstrom, Park Meadows

Men's Warehouse - recommend.
The tuxes were exactly what we had asked for and all arrived on time and in the correct sizes.  The only thing I wish they had mentioned was we could have each of the guys pick their tuxedos up at locations closer to their homes or hotel.  They had made it sound like all of the guys had to pick up the tuxes at the same location, which was inconvenient to everyone except one.

Nordstrom - highly recommend.
What more can I say... Nordstrom speaks for itself.
